Believe in yourself

"People might perform to keep their job because duty and responsibility demand that they do a job well. But love and encouragement enable people to do work beautifully."

A phrase stated in a book called"something to SMILE about" by Zig Ziglar. Hmm, i think this word apply well in everything we do, especially when it comes to design. From what I've seen, lots of people doesn't understand the meaning of "A DESIGN".

According to MSN Encarta Dictionary, design means "plan and make something: to plan and make something in a skillful or artistic way". Yes, i agree, but in the other hand, it doesn't work right with this definition as well. who doesn't know to how to be ARTISTIC? by using a pen and a piece of paper, with just a simple line, it is consider as ART as well, right? So what is the TRUE meaning for DESIGN then?

If you ask me this question, I would like to highlight second sentence from that phrase above. Yes we need to have certain responsibility and afford to complete a work, but to create an excellent pieces, we need LOVE, ENCOURAGEMENT and OHM(passion) into it. From my very own experience, I can't work without these three keys. Every design that I've done have something in it. It might be something special happened to me, some meaningful memories that I wanted to remember, someone I love, or someone I wanted to thank. Yes it does react according to my mood too. As long as it is worth it, I'll do it to the fullest! Well, some people could say its FRENCH CUISINE, but i would just take it as "self satisfaction" . If wanted to do for the sake of doing, you can just forget about it, cause there is no meaning at all.
Its not about how great i trying to praise myself, but it is indeed the way i react towards things that I've done. And that is why i ~HEART~ all my design.

At last, the message that i wanted to deliver here is "Believe in what you think its right, and react according to your logic sense." Why do i say so? For example, Mr. MC2(Einstein). At the very beginning, no one understand what is he thinking at all. At the end, he create miracle to this world and changed everyone's life. SO, trust your sense of doing things, and believe in yourself.

"Believe in yourself and all that you are, know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle."

Equilb

Subject: Design Studio 1
Semester: 3
Title: Spaces within the tree

This is my final assignment for design studio 1. I could say this is the hardest design i ever did... Actually my initial idea is not like this at all. My very first idea is to build a house with curvy lines which create some kind of floating rhythm around. But then i had being challenge by my tutor with a word "NO CURVE for daphne!" after i show him what i wanted to do at first. ok FINE! I am not afraid of your challenge at all sir, i will show you that i am not a CURVE girl, and i can do WELL with BOXES too!

At last, i DID came out with a house that is TOTALLY NO CURVE at all! A proof and also a great apportunity for me to test out my limits! and here we are~
~Equilb~

The concept of cubicle form were formed according to Yanni’s personal characteristic. Yanni is a person that loves neatness and simplicity in life, and this could be found through his physical appearance. He shows up at his concerts dressed in neat white or black outfits. This is the inspiration for the cubicle form concept; the cube is the prime basic form among all geometrical shapes and also the simplest structure for all buildings. Black and white cubes are chosen to reflect Yanni’s favorite colors. It is being arranged in the way where both cube were joint together at the edge to create an accent in how emotional of two simple cube could be. It is being arranged in such a way that both cubes were joined together to accentuate the effects of the merging of two simple cubes to become a unique structure. Besides, the base cube was arranged to stand with its vertices to magnify its mood and strength. With a dash of some simple texture, it ultimately reveals an extravagant result. There is no column at the exterior of the building which gives a precarious thought when looking at it at a glance. This is what inspired me to name it “The Equilb”, from the English word equilibrium. It balances up in equilibrium with the earth’s gravity to eliminate the insecure felling from its first glance look. Yanni react sensitively towards his music and life. Due to the limits of volume given for this design, a water platform was chosen to be added in to create a sense of tranquility and sensitivity. It could be a better way to portray Yanni’s love for the ocean, which reminds him of his youth, his passion, and his memories of the young Yanni. On the other hand, the water platform could be use to create reflections on the water. Especially early in the morning where the sun just rise up, it maximize the colours around the building perfectly.

Finally, i would like to thank you Sir, thankyou for bring us to our nightmare, and thankyou for showing us what do HELL looks like. From there i learn to observe especially little details that i should noticed and care about and think OUT OF THE BOX! From there i learnt more about myself as well. ^^

De-Splendour

Subject: Studio 1 - Assignment 2
Semester: 3
Title: Furniture Design

The inspiration for this model began with the structure of Ipomoea which is the Morning Glory plant. According to this plant, it doesn’t have any straight line or sharp edge but smooth and soft string twisting freely. It gives a natural curve and bond which reflect the power of nature as well. Wrought iron has being used as the frame and timber as the bass to support a human according to our body lines. The timber gives life to the wrought iron frame as it represents the body of the furniture. Cengal Batu has been chosen because it doesn’t absorb heat and it is much stronger compare to others. The wrought iron frame gives a springy feeling just like you are floating in the air while resting on it. It is being designed for one as it gives a very private space for resting.
De- Splendour is special designed for outdoors. The best location for it should be somewhere which is more silent and peaceful, for example in the lush tropical garden. You are lying on it, with all the trees surrounding you early in the morning, the wind touched you gently while the sunrise shines on u... at that moment try to take a deep breath and smell the environment... And that the best to describe rest and relax!
