DATUM 2009 - Basic Design

Attended DATUM last Friday and Saturday.
An Architecture Forum organized by PAM (Pertubuhan Architect Malaysia) with the theme of
"Basic Design: The New Intelligence"
Here are some comments/interpretation on the architects' presentations, based on my own understanding about the idea of
"BASIC DESIGN"
Winy Maas - Pop Artish
Junya Ishigami - Math and Physic
Roman Delugan - Stage
Meiji Yoon & Eric Howeler - Technology
Zhang Ke - Locality
Marina Tabassum - Holy
Alastair Hall - Typological
Hud Abu Bakar - Commercial
Han Tumertekin - Raw in texture
Stephey Pimbley - Structural
Eventhough they are pretty different in style and method, but there is still a thing that all agrees on. From what i see, is the roots of their idea, being intellectually honest towards architecture.
I do have my vote on my FAVOURITE ARCHITECT this year.
and the vote goes to......... ZHANG KE! :D
those who don't know him, just go google him out.

Living Pipes is well formed by different sizes of pipes, by stacking all of them together in a horizontal position. Never the less, it is being inspired by the most basic structure of an organic cell structure. Played with irregular yet systematic order, with a rhythm that represents the dynamism of life.Emerging in and out, they carry the geneticsism of the design to be sent out to corresponding recipients. It could be as pretty as an individual sculpture, and so do as a booth for beautiful architectural models. =)
